At the beginning of the 80s, Salvatore Di Gaetano's winemaking passion was attracted by a particular place, the district of Firriato, in the extraordinary countryside of the city of Trapani, an agricultural area deeply marked by the cultivation of vines and the culture of wine, located between the beautiful sea of the Trapani coast and the majestic fortress of the ancient city of Erice. It starts from the vineyard, from the first plantings of Nero d'Avola, Catarratto and Inzolia, conducted with the scruple of modern viticulture centered on a new concept of wine quality that has its primacy right in the vineyard and in its agronomic management. Perfectly healthy grapes must arrive in the cellar, organoleptically complete, harvested at the right degree of ripeness. Respecting naturalness, exalting the oenological value, enhancing the varietal peculiarities of each vine is for Firriato, from the very beginning, a strict rule on which Salvatore Di Gaetano, harvest after harvest, manages to form a new model of wine business, rooted in the territory but with an eye to the most demanding and prepared markets. The Sicily of quality wine is coming out of the shadow cone that has penalized territories and businesses for too long, a new and exciting season of Italian wine is about to open, which has its propulsive engine in oenological Sicily. The Firriato company and the Di Gaetano family are, together with the great winemaking brands of the island, protagonists of this very important evolution, not only under the economic production aspect, but above all for the enological quality of the wines and the ability to understand the evolution of taste expressed by consumers. It grows and the recognitions and prizes grow and, more importantly, the consensus of consumers grows. We travel the world, because the world has discovered Sicily and Sicilian wines.
