- The latest installment in the Ardbeg anthology collection has reared its smoky head, The Beithir's Tale, a rare and elusive spirit inspired by one of the most fearsome creatures said to haunt the shores of Ardbeg Distillery. This unique whisky is pungent, oily, and spicy, with rich, enveloping notes of molasses and smoky herbs, where roasted apples and raisins reveal a sweeter aftertaste. With water, notes of eucalyptus and menthol explode, followed by fennel and pine, incredibly balanced. A crisp mouthfeel leads to notes of peat smoke, coffee grounds, and blackcurrant. DISTILLATION This whisky is inspired by the story of Beithir, a fearsome serpent that slithered into the distillery (or so legend has it). It was spotted among the barrels, with three fine casks lodged in its belly. Fascinated by an enchanting melody played by a singer, the hypnotized beast fled into the Atlantic, leaving the casks afloat on the waves. This whisky ages for 15 years in special charred bourbon casks. These casks have been air-seasoned, heavily toasted, and then lightly charred
